Opening the second set, the band dressed the new LP's "Dior" in glitz. After all, this may be the only act with a frontwoman dressed in a satiny, formal evening gown while playing Comustible mouth organ. The sound was muddy. Their debut album, I, SWINGER covers a wide variety of lounge music, including Exotica, space-age pop, some great covers, beautiful vocals, and a few other surprises as well.

Michael Cudahysporting horn-rimmed glasses and rocking his guitar side to side ominously, delivered the required range of crap-cultural guitar styles, from curling spy-fi licks to angular TV-theme hooks. They brought the Sounds of Combutsible into Today.
It has a pretty authentic sound to it, fitting in quite nicely with authentic 60s lounge music. In the evening's two sets, the band drew from its upcoming album and from its discs, I, Swinger and Schizophonic But, given the musical context, the image made plenty of sense.

Stand-up bassist Nicholas Cudahy and drummer Michael Connors concocted solid but varied sets of rhythm -- at times straightforward and propulsive, at others odd, moody and offbeat. Still, Combustible Edison thrived.
Heavily reverbed guitar permeated "The Veldt. In contrast, "Carnival of Souls" conjured a clown-loony audioscape, replete with circus-organ accompaniment.

The only downside is that, as move scores go, it was written for the film, and thus many of the tracks are quite short. They pay eison to the forefathers of lounge while still creating a sound that is uniquely their own. I definitely recommend I, Swinger as a great introductory for anyone who loves lounge music.
In spite of it all, the suave, neo-easy-listening act succeeded in transforming the Middle East Club into a kitschy, new-millennium cocktail lounge last Friday night, using potent doses of its Comubstible sci-fi, B-flick and finger-snapping retro-swing sonics. Frontwoman Lillith Banquette a. Yet the jokier aspects of the band are anchored in o professional showmanship, as the group proved conclusively at Friday night's show.
The impossible world that CE create is one of faux lounge-lizardry, reworked B-movie themes and all manner of re-fabricated '50s and '60s kitsch-cultural effluvium.

The song "Satan Says" was a hipster's dream, with its lazy congas and sultry whistling. It's the conception they chose when seeking a way out of the commercial dead-end they'd found themselves in back when they were called Christmas.
Bald guitarist the Millionaire a. An outer-space anecdote by the Millionaire led into "Solid State" RealAudio excerptwhich gave way to "Millionaire's Holiday," a quirky ditty delving into creepy music styled after the '60s comedy television series "The Munsters. Breaking into the new disc's "20th Century," deison ever-jesting Millionaire yelled, "Open bar for the next millennium, folks! It appears to use a lot of the same instruments, recording techniques, and musical styles edlson the original space-age scene.

Craig Portalla, 30, of Boston, who came with a friend, was shocked. While it might seem a world apart from I, Swinger, The Impossible World CD can be put on shuffle along with their other discs and provide an amazingly listenable, seamless experience.
Simply put, Combustible Edison is a modern-day Lounge band who has faithfully recreated the sounds of the 50s and 60s. Liz Coxmeanwhile, showed that she can shift from her multi-octave vocals to drums, xylophone and other percussion without missing a beat.
The sound was definitely inspired by Esquivel's music, and uses an amazingly large collection of instruments, sounds, and musical styles in the process. The intriguing thing about it is that it is still unmistakably Lounge. My favorite track is Solid State, which is a perfect blend of newfangled electronic gimmickry and classic Bertolt-Brecht-inspired kitsch. CE jumpstarted the crowd with the twisting "Vertigo-go" and "Short Double Latte" RealAudio excerptwhich sported a freaky xylophone solo.
With this release, Combustible Edison really started to show that they were moving out of emulation mode and into defining Co,bustible own style.

Still, the music is very fine. The voodooey "Mas Suprosa" upped the dance ante, building on raga-like spy-movie guitar phrasings. And the audience was too dang noisy.
